Blow-Out
by Kerri Balabas, Oct. 1, 2001

Revenge?  Nah.  Just a blowout, simple as that.
Rex Grossman fired five touchdown passes in a game for the second time in his career and the second ranked Florida Gators shutout 21st ranked Mississippi State 52-0 in Gainesville. The Gators avenged a 47-35 loss to the Bulldogs in Starkville last season by posting 640 yards of total offense, the most in school history in an SEC game. Grossman (pictured) threw for a career-high 393 yards - his fourth straight 300 yard passing game, a new school record. He also scored the game's first touchdown on a quarterback sneak from one yard out.

Spurrier dedicated the last touchdown to Clay Carter, the Gator's Equipment Manager.  Clay was knocked silly last year in Starkville by Bulldog fans who stormed the field in celebration.  Click here for all the details of the game.

Sad Note
On a very sad note, the So Cal Gator Club would like to express our sincere sympathies and condolances to UF President Charles Young.
Sue K. Young, wife of  President Young, died on Saturday, 9/28, at the couple’s home in Thousand Oaks, Calif., after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. She was 69.

"The entire University of Florida family mourns the passing of our First Lady," said UF Provost David R. Colburn. "Regrettably, we had but a brief period of time to know her. But while Sue Young was with us, the university benefited from her grace, kindness, charm and personal interest in our faculty and students. We are very grateful that she served as our First Lady and touched so many of our lives.  For the full press release from UF, click here.
