RECORDS!
by Kerri
Balabas (Oct.8, 2001)
The LSU Tigers were reduced to a mere meow as they left the field in
Baton Rouge this past Saturday. The Gators beat LSU 44-15 as Mike
the Tiger looked on and cried. Rex Grossman threw five touchdown
passes for the second straight game and set a school record with 464
yards passing. Grossman broke the school single game passing record
set by Danny Wuerffel, who passed for 462 yards against Arkansas in
1996. His five touchdown passes tied a career-high, established last
week against Mississippi State.
Spurrier: "If
Rex can throw the ball around like this, it's going to be difficult
for the other teams to stop us, unless they can stay on the field a
lot," said Gator coach Steve Spurrier in his post game remarks.
"We have a chance to have a big year. We've improved a lot
since the first couple of games." For

SACKS
University of Florida senior defensive end Alex Brown (White
Springs, Fla.) was named the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Week on
Monday for his performance last Saturday at LSU. Brown made seven
tackles, four solo, and recorded nine "Big Plays" (two
sacks, two blocked kicks - both PATs - and five QB hurries).
POLLS
Finally, UF replaces Miami atop the AP
football poll. Personally, I can't see why it took so long - or
why we aren't atop the ESPN/USA Today poll either. Let's look at
Miami's schedule: Penn State, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Troy State,
Florida State, West Virgina, Temple, Boston College, Syracuse,
Washington, Virginia Tech. Hmmm. Can someone tell me where Troy
State is? We all know the woes of Penn State this year, Rutgers
every year...WV just got the pants beat off of them, FSU - well,
Bobby's having a tough year (waaaaa), and the rest? Let's just count
the number of ranked teams on our schedule and compare the two.
When the BCS poll
comes out, revealing that Strength of Schedule factor, all will be
clear.....as roses!
